Backpacks For
Kids at Risk

We make care packages for at risk children to make them feel loved, to feel a sense of pride and belonging with practical items that encourage a creative outlet, good hygiene and self care. Our goal is to support as many children and organisations as we can in the Manawatu.

Teriria’s Story

Teriria’s experience as a child growing up with Domestic Violence in the home, being rescued by the Women’s Refuge, and leaving with only the clothes they were wearing left a lasting impact on her life. Being moved by similar charities she decided this was one way to give back and impact the lives of others for the better. From filling backpacks in her home the outreach has progressed into what you see now.

Our Goals

Our goal is to support as many children and organisations as we can in Manawatu as generous as possible.

Our Backpacks are targeted to displaced, vulnerable and at risk children and families living in the Manawatu region, donated to and distributed by social services and shelters in the area.

Me mahi tahi tātou mo te oranga o te katoa; We must work together for the wellbeing of all.

Our tamariki love their backpacks. It’s beautiful to watch their faces light up with all the thoughtful items that are put inside each backpack. Thank you so much Teriria for supporting us at Camellia House.

The backpacks that Backpack Outreach supply us with have been such an awesome gift to our tamariki. It gives us great joy to be able to give these gifts to the children that pass through our Palmerston North safehouse and refuge. To be able to give something new, that is put together in love, is just wonderful. You guys rock!! Thank you to all those that give of their finances and time to do this for our NZ whanau.

The wonderful people of IPU MO TE HAUORA reached out to our organisation to quietly support the people we serve who have been affected by Family Violence. With the bags filled to the brim of essential items and resources, not only do whanau get to enjoy ‘cool stuff’, we have seen ‘relief’ on the faces of our service users at not having to stretch their budget to accommodate repeated purchases of essential items. We appreciate IPU MO TE HAUORA and their meaningful gifts.
